Rpm installation problem

Having thought on this for a short bit, I'll offer a guess as to why it
(-V) doesn't work for you. You need to be careful how you refer to the
package name when using 'rpm', for example:

[poot][/home/hornung]% rpm -qf /etc/inittab
initscripts-4.16-1
[poot][/home/hornung]% rpm -V initscripts-4.16-1
........T c /etc/inittab
missing    /etc/ppp/ip-down
missing    /etc/ppp/ip-up
S.5....T c /etc/rc.d/rc.local
S.5....T c /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
missing    /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S15netfs
missing    /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/S15netfs
missing    /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S15netfs
[poot][/home/hornung]% rpm -V initscripts-4.16-1.i386.rpm
package initscripts-4.16-1.i386.rpm is not installed

See what I'm talking about?
