80x50

I've seen a few Linux systems boot up in 80x50 text mode (as opposed to
the 'standard' 80x25 mode). I found this to be extremely convenient at
times, and would like to know some things.
- Is it possible to make Linux boot in this textmode? I've a funny feeling
this has to do with LILO ... ?
- Is it possible to switch to this (or other, higher? 132xSomething?)
textmodes on the fly?
The distribution in particular is Red Hat 6.0, but I'm sure this is more
dependent on the system architecture (x86 in this case).
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
~ Michal
