Networking with DHCP at home

Is this a linux group still?
The linux way to do it..
1)install/configure dhcpd
2)install 2nd nick with private subnet (192.168.0.x or 10.1.1.x/24)
3)configure ipchains to do your firewall and ipmasq
4)use a hub, or a cross-over cable to connect your laptop.
Total price=$9.00 for nic, $5.00 for crossover cable, or $30 for hub. cost
of setting up linux to do it all=priceless.
