Linux supports netatalk, a BSD (so it *should* also be available on the
various free BSDs) dervied protocol for communicating over apple talk.
The "Linux Networking Overview" has more information and can be found at
www.linuxdoc.org. I've pasted a section from it on sharing files between
Linux and Macs, perhaps the urls can provide you with more information.

5.1 Apple environment
As outlined in previous sections, Linux supports the Appletalk family of
protocols. Linux netatalk allows Macintosh clients to see Linux Systems as
another Macintosh on the network, share files and use printers connected
to Linux servers.
Netatalk faq and HOWTO:

Hope it helps.
