newbie kernel question

Actually, its only 2.3.51. All subsequent kernels will be pre-2.4. I've
been using 2.3.xx for about a month now with few problems. Though 2.3.50
had a small mistake which disallowed socket creation under specific
circumstances (depeneded on user and premision). Though a quick patch
solved it. 2.3.51 does NOT have the problem. USB support has not given
me any problems yet, I'm using it for the handspring visor. Be aware that
you will need to get Video for Linux software to do any thing. Check out
www.linux-usb.org for more Linux usb info.
Though if you only want USB suppror and don't use APM (as I do on my
laptop) then you can retrieve the USB backport from the previously
mentioned page. Then you will see a new option for USB support in your
current 2.2.xx kernel. In the backport (when I tried it) the USB
does not seem to survive APM suspends/resume cycles.
