Exclusive lock?

startx works, partially.  The mouse pointer would disappear all of a sudden
(it is still 'there' but it is not visible!!).  I have only seen this
happening with NT, not quite on a Linux box...I have really bad luck or
something this time?!

LILO still doesn't work but there is a proper lilo.conf.  I have upgraded to
the newer LILO (from Mandrake) but that doesn't help either.

Should I run a new clean install?!  This is driving me nuts!!  :p
