Speaking only for myself, but where I come from (LIS at Illinois) it was
revered for its stability in a server capacity, vs. Red Hat, which made a
great workstation but was too prone to breakage due to that company's
preference for pushing the envelope (some people never really forgave them
for gcc "2.96" :-).
