Accessing by hostname despite dynamic ips

I think it's the switch (okay, not quite a switch) that's doing the DHCP-
it's an iLink something-or-other (it's at a different location from where
I am now, I don't have the name or documentation with me)- the kind
advertised as an stand-alone broadband sharing device.

The dyndns.org suggestions seem like overkill- I don't need access from
the outside, just my own lan.

I'll look into the bind suggestion, it's got to be something along those
lines or involve a custom startup script that rewrites /etc/hosts.conf-
