[linux] updating RH via network

Hi Michael

updating and even upgrading RHL systems is nearly trivial w/ yum. All
you need to do is update a couple python rpms install yum, then just
point the updates /etc/yum.conf entry to a 9.0 repository and type "yum
upgrade" at the command line, it does the right thing perfectly :)

As far as keeping everything you've built, it lends itself perfectly for
such things, and yes you can tell it where to install things....
I have multiple repositories w/ different custom rpms for different
types of boxen....

I would suggest you join the mailing list at
https://lists.dulug.duke.edu/mailman/listinfo/yum
(someone already posted to it about upgrading, so just search the
archives. Or a more detailed instructions, post to it. If not I'll walk
you through it if you'd like)

The main page is:

www.dulug.duke.edu/yum

I have a short presentation I gave at OSCON, which shows you what it's
all about at www.joesauer.org/yum_oscon but you're probably better off
just reading the official page (my presentation does not contain
everything I said, so it's kind of dry). I'll be giving a talk next
month which will cover yum at the SAGE meeting in Seattle, if you're
interested...
