My name is Kolbe Kegel and I’m an undergraduate in the Information
School’s Informatics program. I’m working with a partner on a project
that will serve as our Capstone, and we’re calling it the “Interactive
Network Incident Response Toolkit”. The Toolkit will be a bootable
CD-ROM that can be used to collect network information, provide an
analysis of that information, and prepare the information to be
transferred to network security professionals for further analysis.

I’m writing to this mailing list for input in the initial phase of the
project. We have developed a short survey, and we would be very
grateful if you would consider filling it out to give us an idea of
what end users would expect of this type of application. The survey is
available at http://students.washington.edu/kolbe/inirt/survey/ and
we’d like to get your feedback as soon as possible, please no later
than next Wednesday, January 21. Your responses will be completely
anonymous, and no information that you provide in the survey will be
linked to your identity in any way.

We’re also planning on conducting several interviews with individuals
who have varying levels of network security expertise. Whether you have
experience administering computer networks but don’t have extensive
experience with network security tools and incident response, or you
have experience with large scale incident response, we would be
interested in hearing from you and conducting a short interview with
you to hear about your thoughts and experiences with network incident
response. If you’re interested in the interview but not the survey,
please send a message to kolbe+inirt at u.washington.edu

Again, the survey is available at
http://students.washington.edu/kolbe/inirt/survey/ and a response by
Wednesday, January 21 would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Kolbe Kegel
