[linux] Linux kernels and SATA controller cards?

3ware RAID SATA cards. No issue on the cards; drivers in the
standard kernel source (although it may not be compiled in
for any particular kernel) since at least 2.4 something.
Linux can only boot on certain RAID levels.
Note that some desktop SATA disks may slow down to save
power and heat when not in use for awhile. RAID may interpret
that as "This disk is flakey". There is usually a patch available
to change that behavior.
One guess how I learned this.
