Basically we are trying to get certain faculty members to post files
to the web for distribution, rather than regularly sending out these
monstrously big messages-from-hell via smtp. :-D
The files will be only be posted for a few days; plus given that
they've been sending these out as email attachments, I'm not
particularly concernted about easy-to-guess passwords. The argument
can be made "why use a password at all?", but we're not dealing with
logic here - we're dealing with faculty. ;-) I would pretty much
guarantee that generating strong passwords will likely mean they won't
use the new system. Weak passwords plus security through obscurity -
what's not to love?
One person suggested using one of the Authen::Krb5 modules to test
authentication - that sounds like a good way to go on my original
question.
Thanks again for all the discussion - it's always enlightening.
