[linux] Usenet posting problems?

I use slrn to read/post to Usenet from off-campus. I log in over SSL,
using my NetID, and it works quite well. But I have one quite
irritating problem:
Whenever I post an article or followup, slrn sleeps for about two
minutes, complains that posting failed, and offers to repost. But
it's actually posted!
I'm using a From address that isn't my UW address, for obvious
reasons. Here are the headers of one of my messages, as received by
Google Groups:
Path: g2news2.google.com!news3.google.com!
[ ... path omitted ... ]
news.alt.net!news.u.washington.edu!not-for-mail
