Greetings, LLC-LIST! It has been a quiet spring on this list. Let's stir
it up!
First, I'd like to announce that the spring edition of Polyglot will be in
your boxes mid-week. It is bright green. It has a lot of information in it
that is very important for language faculty and students:
1. Details on our 3 STF proposals, all of which received FULL funding!
2. We will be duplicating all our audio on CDs, beginning fall quarter
3. Website training sessions at the LLC
4. Lab reservations on the rise
Secondly, I'd like to initate a discussion about websites and their role
in language teaching. Here are some questions to get you thinking:
Do you feel that every course (section/instructor/grad student) should
have a website?
Do you feel that students are better served by having access to a syllabus
or other course materials on line? Or, put another way, is it a
significant disparity for students if some sections of a course use
web-accessible information and some do not?
Should there be a baseline or standard regarding a web presence for
language courses? If so, what would that standard look like? How basic is
good enough? Or, is basic good enough? How high should the standard be to
be effective?
What do you think it would take to give people the knowledge *and*
motivation they need to produce *and* maintain a course/section website?
Please post your thoughts to the list. If you do not wish to receive
multiple emails a day, simply change your list status to receive only one
email a day as a digest of all the day's messages. To do this:
1. Send email to listproc at u.washington.edu
2. Do not put anything in the subject line
3. In the body of the message, type:
set llc-list mail digest
