The Grants and Funding Information Service (GFIS) offers quarterly workshops
free of charge to UW graduate students, covering methods of searching for
funding available outside the university. Although we are targeted toward
graduate students, undergraduates who are applying for graduate school are
welcome to attend these workshops. All too often, students do not apply for
grad school funding until after they are accepted to their program, in which
case many deadlines have passed. If you have students who are applying to
graduate school, the workshops offered by GFIS are a great way for students to
begin thinking about grad school funding.

We offer two types of workshops:

** "Introduction to Searching" provides information on general principles of
fund-seeking, as well as strategies and tips on how to search print materials
and the Internet.

** "Database Searching" provides information about two funding databases
available at UW. Students learn how to get the best results from each of the
databases in a hands-on workshop in one of the computer labs on the main UW
campus.

It is recommended that students take the "Introduction to Searching" workshop
before the "Database Searching" workshop. However, students may judge for
themselves which workshops best meet their own background and needs.

Dates for Fall quarter are as follows:

and specifying which workshop they would like to attend.

Please feel free to contact the GFIS office with any questions about the
