Job Description

Work with a complex recruitment database in the UW Office of Admissions
assisting with the management of data on prospective undergraduate
applicants. This position will encompass everything from data imports to
complex report building and can serve as very practical experience for a
student pursuing study in Information Systems, Informatics, or other areas
that focus on the management of information. Some details of the position
can be tailored to best suit the talents and interests of a highly capable
candidate. This database, which is customized for the University's use,
sometimes tracks as many as 750,000 records, and plays a critical role in
enabling smooth functionality of important recruitment activities. You will
work closely with the Information Systems Manager and the Associate Director
for Recruitment and Outreach, as well as additional students in related
positions and may, on occasion, work with various departments and programs
of the university community.

The position requires a strong attention to detail and good computer skills,
with a particularly good knowledge of MS OfficeXP applications including
Access, Excel, and Word, and of both HTML and PHP. Quick study of new
software is a must, as this office routinely contracts with external vendors
for special products and campaigns to send mass emails, track response
activity, and otherwise avail ourselves of the latest technology.

While the position will initially focus on data entry and other 'front-end'
activities, it will continually build from that foundation to work with
Pivot Table and Access-style reports, managing large data imports using SQL
Enterprise Manager interfaces, and other routine operations that maintain
data integrity to enable better information use by a broad range of office
staff and facilitate the execution of important recruitment objectives for
the University.
