We are in the process of recruiting students for a (Winter 2007) quarter long
education and service learning experience associated with Rebuild and Recovery
along the Gulf Coast (with a home base in Bay St. Louis, near Katrina's Ground
Zero). The project is an excellent opportunity for students to do retrofit
community service (rebuilding existing houses) along the Gulf Coast, to
experience Katrina and her long-term ramifications, to work together in close
community, to network with others in their field, and gain the many other
benefits of working and learning from within a community affected by natural
disaster. The project can be an excellent, far-reaching internship experience
for students seeking to network for their longer term career path.
Our goal is to recruit up to 20 students to participate in this quarter long
experience. I have attached the course flyer and hope that you can guide me in
connecting and engaging with students who would have an interest in
participating. Could you forward the attached flyer, including an appropriate
announcement to potentially interested students? The experience is structured
(a) into a full credit load (12) to limit impact on financial aid and (b)
around a framework by which students in a wide range of studies can succeed and
benefit both the classes and the service learning component. Training in
relevant skills will be provided prior to departure from Seattle.
