I am pleased to announce the creation of the Commuter Commons. The Commuter
Commons is a collaborative effort between Undergraduate Academic Affairs and
the Office of Student Life. The idea of the Commuter Commons was the
brainchild of many people, students and staff members alike. The purpose of
the Commuter Commons is to assist commuter students in creating a sense of
identity within the wider University community. This will be accomplished
by facilitating programming that will support students' academic and social
endeavors and by empowering students to be active participants in their
education.
The Commons is looking to hire three outstanding student associates for the
09-10 academic year. Commuter Commons Associates are responsible for
providing a welcoming and resourceful presence for diverse commuter students
who use the Commons to meet their peers, study, socialize, eat and relax.
The staff builds community by helping to form meaningful relationships with
and among students and faculty, initiates programming that supports
students' needs, performs administrative tasks to ensure the smooth
operation of the Commons, and creates a culture of academic and social
conversation that enhances the broader educational experience of the
students.
