Hello!

(1)
Math Club is hosting a pizza/lecture on Tuesday, February 17. It will be in Padelford C-036, starting at 4:30. There will be free pizza.

Title:
The Exceptional Case: Exploring Methods of Contruction for One-Coefficient Refinable Functions

Speaker:
Ruth Lee

Abstract:
This will be an accessible talk about refinable functions, which play a role in Wavelet Theory. I will be speaking about my Summer 2008 REU. My mini-conference abstract is attached.

(2) Immediately following the lecture, in the same room, we will have our "Majors" event, discussing the math program, the acms program, and the stats program. People who come to the lecture do not need to stay for this if they do not want to.

(3) Heads up... winter quarter's Departmental Dinner has been set tentatively on Friday, February 27. Restaurant hasn't been decided yet, suggestions are welcome. An RSVP link will be available soon.

(4) Question, comments, suggestions: contact us at uwmathclub at gmail.com
or visit our webpage http://students.washington.edu/mathclub/
We're still looking for pizza/lecture speakers. No real research experience required; just talk about an area of math, or a mathematician, you're passionate about.

Sincerely,
Your Officers
