Rita
Here's a possibility for your untitled French geology book.
Unfortunately I don't have any of these on our collection to verify them, but
poking about in the BM (NH) catalog suggests:

Assuming that the Hutton mentioned is James Hutton (1726-1797), your book might
be
   Playfair, John , 174-1819
Explication de Playfair sur la theorie de la terre par Hutton, et
examen comparatif des (deux) systemes geologiques...par M. Murray en reponse a
l'Explication de Playfair, traduits de l'Anglais et accompagnes de notes et de
planches par C.A. Basset. 2 pts. in 1 vol., Paris, London, 1815.

The original (English) ed. of Playfair's work is his A comparative view of the
Huttonian and Neptunian systems of geology...Edinburgh, London, 1802.

Less likely is Jean Andre Deluc (1727-1817), An elementary treatise on
geology...containing an examination of the Huttonian theory of the
earth..translated from the French manuscript by H.De la Fite, London, 1809.
(pagination xxviii,415)

			Hope this helps, Bernadette Callery
