Just received this announcement from Elsevier. I'm not sure if we'll
subscribe--it is within our collecting scope, but it would not be easy to
persuade us to add an additional title from this publisher (especially
considering that
it's announced as a companion to Forest Ecology and Management, which costs us $2315/yr).
> nnouncing a New Journal -- FOREST POLICY AND ECONOMICS
>
> Elsevier Science and the European Forest Institute have
> announced their intention to collaborate in setting up a
> new journal with the title Forest Policy and Economics which
> will be a companion journal to Elsevier’s Forest Ecology and
> Management.
> Its aims are both to publish original papers of a high
> scientific quality and to enhance communications amongst
> researchers, legislators, decision-makers and other
> professionals.
>
> Forest Policy and Economics is intended to provide an
> authoritative international forum for policy issues,
> including economics and planning, relating to the forest and
> forest industries sector. While the content will focus on
> European policy issues, it will also include coverage of
> other parts of the world, and will contain original research
> papers contributed from the international scientific
> community; selected and edited papers from EFI conferences
> on forest policy; and contributions invited from leading
> stakeholders. To enhance the journal’s communication role,
> authors will be especially encouraged to present their
> information in a comparative and global context and to write
> in a non-technical style.
> Initially the journal is planned to appear quarterly,
> starting with 4 issues in 1999.
>
> Professor Max Krott, forest policy scientist of Göttingen
> University, has accepted the position of founding Editor-in-
> Chief, and is forming an international editorial board.
>
> "There is a big need for such a journal for papers on forest
> policy and economics but it is essential that we start out
> with the aim of setting the highest academic standards" says
> Professor Krott. These standards will be guaranteed by an
> international peer review system for all papers.
