Gray Family Chair for Innovative Library Services
The Valley Library/Information Services
Oregon State University
The Oregon State University Libraries seeks a highly motivated and
experienced individual to provide strong leadership in the development of
innovative library services within a dynamic organization. Funded by an
endowment dedicated to promoting creative solutions to information
management and access, this position initially will focus on planning,
implementing, evaluating and publicizing the Libraries' digital library
program.
Oregon State University is one of only ten American universities to hold
the land, sea, and space grant designation and is a Carnegie
Doctoral/Research - Extensive status institution. OSU is located in
Corvallis, a community of 50,000 people situated in the Willamette Valley
between Portland and Eugene. Ocean beaches, lakes, rivers, forests, high
desert, and the rugged Cascade and Coast Ranges are all within a 100-mile
drive of Corvallis. Approximately 15,400 undergraduate and 3,400 graduate
students are enrolled at OSU, including 2,500 U.S. students of color and
1,200 international students. The university has an institution-wide

Responsibilities: Reporting to the University Librarian, the Gray Family
Chair for Innovative Library Services identifies potential digital
collections; creates project plans and operating budgets in concert with
the Digital Library Steering Committee; identifies and allocates human and
other resources; collaborates with library technology and technical
services staff to select technical solutions that integrate digital
collections with traditional collections; identifies and promotes
potential collaborative efforts with researchers, faculty, state agencies,
libraries and other cultural institutions; negotiates and forges
agreements with project partners on and off-campus; identifies potential
funding agencies and donors, plans and oversees grants; coordinates rights
management; keeps abreast of and informs others about the latest
innovative library technologies and services; and represents the OSU
Libraries in local, regional and national organizations and professional

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management
or other related field required. MLS from an ALA-accredited program or MIS
degree preferred; minimum of 2 years recent management experience;
demonstrated decision-making and organizational skills; strong
oral/written communication and interpersonal skills; knowledge of digital
library technologies, standards, issues and trends; strong interest in
interactive computing and integration of text, graphics, audio, and video
sources in a digital library environment; ability to work effectively with
diverse communities; previous grant experience and ability to excel in a
complex and changing collaborative environment. Preferred qualifications
include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.
Employment Conditions: This is a full-time, 12-month, fixed term
professional faculty appointment. Renewal is at the discretion of the
University Librarian. Minimum salary of $60,000 annually plus medical,
dental and life insurance are available; staff tuition fee privileges for
employee or a dependent at an Oregon university System school(restrictions
apply). This position earns 15 hours of vacation and 8 hours of sick leave
each month.
