The Wildlife Society has posted a page of additional information on
their future publication plans. The page is oriented toward individual
members, not institutional subscribers, but many librarians should find
it of interest.
For example, starting in 2007, Wildlife Society Bulletin content will be
merged into Journal of Wildlife Management. Wildlife Society Bulletin
will no longer be a separate title. Wildlife Society Monographs will
become open access at some point. Online access to Journal of Wildlife
Management will not persist if one drops a subscription. On the other
hand, new subscribers/members will have immediate access to content from
prior years. Some work of producing the journal is moving from the
Wildlife Society offices to Allen Press/Alliance Communications.
For details, see
http://www.wildlife.org/publications/index.cfm?tname=pubsfaq.
Even librarians without an interest in wildlife management will probably
be interested in the strategy of this society and Allen Press/Alliance
Communications and in the structure of the subscription plan. In crude
terms of the market, the plan seems designed to please potential
customers, rather than current customers.
