A Sustainable Forest Leads to a Sustainable Society
The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR)
understands the importance of wood as a sustainable resource. A sustainable
society, whenever possible, uses renewable resources and durable goods,
produces less raw material input, less waste, and less pollution. It
reduces, reuses, and recycles. By practicing sustainable forestry, foresters
can meet human needs while ensuring the long-term health of forest
ecosystems throughout Massachusetts.
The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is recruiting specifically for
qualified individuals interested in serving this lead conservation
department. Your students will gain unparalleled experience in the pressing
issues facing land managers in Massachusetts today. The Massachusetts DCR
manages over 50,000 acres of forests across the Bay State. Interns in this
pilot project will help develop a sustainable forestry model to support the
health of protected forested lands throughout western Massachusetts.
Other benefits include:
* Training in GPS/GIS technology, compasses, clinometers, diameter tapes,
prisms/angle gauges, tree marking guns, and other surveying and/or
