Location:               Southwest Research and Extension Center, Hope,
Arkansas

Type of Position:       Full time, non-tenure track, 12-month appointment
with responsibilities for extension education (75%) and research (25%).

The UA Cooperative Extension Service seeks to fill an Assistant Professor -
Extension Specialist position.  The position will be based at the University
of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Southwest Research & Extension Center
in Hope, Arkansas.

Responsibilities:       The successful candidate will have demonstrated
interest in the transfer and application of knowledge in forest management
especially southern pine to various constituent groups through county based
extension education programs.

         Emphasis is placed on encouraging reforestation on harvested lands,
generating interest in regeneration planning prior to harvesting,
reforesting unproductive forest areas, fostering better management of
existing forests, and improving timber marketing practices.

         Areas of program responsibility include general forest management,
regeneration and management of pine and mixed forests.  The incumbent will
also have applied research responsibilities that include but are not limited
to continuing existing forest research projects at the SW Research and
Extension Center. Responsibilities also include implementing forest
education programs targeting 4-H and other youth.

Qualifications: Ph.D.  by the time of appointment; knowledge of and
significant interest in forest management.  At least two degrees must be
forestry degrees from an accredited forestry school.  An educational
background and/or experience with emphasis in southern pine management is
highly desired.  Demonstrated ability to write well and speak effectively to
diverse audiences.  Candidate must have the ability to work as part of a
team with other Extension faculty, the Arkansas Forest Resources Center, and
other UA Cooperative Extension Service's partners.

         The successful candidate will have the ability to plan, conduct and
evaluate programs in given area of expertise. He/She must have a complete
knowledge of the technical subject matter in assigned area of major
responsibility with the demonstrated practical ability to teach clientele
and Extension personnel. Should be career oriented and able to listen and
communicate freely both orally and in writing.

Relationships:  The incumbent is responsible to the director of the SW
Research and Extension Center for day-to-day activities.  She/he is
responsible to the Section Leader - Environmental and Natural Resources for
program supervision and evaluation.  The incumbent's overall program will be
guided and directed by the Arkansas Forest Resources Center.  Incumbent is
also a non-tenured faculty member of the Arkansas Forest Resources Center
based at the University of Arkansas - Monticello campus.

Rank and Salary:        Salary is negotiable and commensurate with
qualifications and experience.
