Subject: ANA - Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics (5 positions)
FYI
ANA has a nomination deadline of February 14, 2000 for
several elected positions including 5 positions on the
Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics.
I realize that time is short. I am a long-time ANA member
BUT I had not seen their call for nominees until today when
I was scrolling the ANCC website for credentialling
information on Clinical Specialist in Community Health
Nursing. My guess is that I am not alone so here is the
website url:
http://www.nursingworld.org/about/election/index.htm
Community/Public Health Nurses need to have a stronger
voice at the national level. This would be one way to
influence future debate and policy regarding advanced
practice nursing.
The following is an excerpt from the "job description" for
the Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics:
"The individuals elected to this office will be expected to
fulfill responsibilities and participate in activities as
identified below, but not limited to:
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Develop policy alternatives essential to the mission of
the association, including issues related to nursing
practice and workforce issues, and recommend to the Board
for action.
2.Develop and adopt nursing standards; develop and evaluate
programs; and evaluate trends, developments, and issues
related to the practice of nursing.
3.Formulate revisions of the Code for Nurses and recommend
them to the ANA House of Delegates; and interpret the
Code for Nurses.
4.Address and respond to concerns related to equal
opportunity and human rights, ethics, and to nursing
education, research, and services.
5.Establish mechanisms for communications, input and access
to issues experts.
6.Identify and analyze the economic impact of nurses and
nursing standards on health care.
7.May serve on sub-committees/task forces of the congress."
Give it some thought!
