Columbia University School of Nursing has completed a CDC funded project to
identify the competencies needed by public health workers. A complete
description of the competencies and a bibliography are available at
http://www.nursing.hs.columbia.edu/dept/nursing/institute-centers/chphsr/pro
jec
ts.html (sorry it's such a long address!).
Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University is a CDC funded
Center
for Public Health Preparedness, and is using the core competencies as the
basis
for developing curricula for public health workers in collaboration with the

School of Nursing and the NEw York City Department of Health. A description
of
the program to prepare the public health nurses assigned to schools in New
York
is available at
http://cpmcnet.columbia.edu/dept/sph/CPHP/web-promo-article.pdf
The complete core curriculum for use with any professional group will be
available on the web shortly.

If you have specific questions, please contact me, or the project
coordinator,
Jackie Merrill, RN, MPH at jam119 at columbia.edu.
