Do you know someone who is helping to end domestic violence?
Perhaps you know a business that has donated their services to help residents of a domestic violence shelter, or someone who organized a domestic violence workshop in your faith community. The King County Coalition Against Domestic Violence wants to recognize actions such as these. In October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Coalition will present its 5th annual Take Action Against Domestic Violence Awards to individuals or groups who have taken outstanding action to help end domestic violence in their communities. If you'd like to see someone recognized for their work against domestic violence, please nominate them! A nomination form is attached.
The Coalition will present awards in the following categories:
Youth - an individual 18 years or younger who has demonstrated a commitment to ending domestic violence.
Community - an individual or organization that has educated, informed, organized, or otherwise worked within their community to prevent domestic violence or support survivors.
Business/Workplace - an individual, company, or organization that has used their business resources to help domestic violence agencies or individual survivors, has made special efforts in the workplace to educate employees about domestic violence, or has developed effective workplace policies to support domestic violence survivors.
Faith - an individual or faith organization that has made an outstanding effort within their faith community to organize against domestic violence or support survivors.
Institutional Change - a public official, group, or private individual who has worked to change an institution in a way that supports domestic violence survivors or educates the public about domestic violence.
Nominations will be accepted through July 2, 2004. People whose primary job function is in the field of domestic violence are not eligible for nominations, as we want to focus on community action. To read more about the awards or to nominate someone, visit our website at http://www.kccadv.org/award.html or call 206-568-5454.
