$4.4 Million Available for Older Adults Mental Health Grant Program
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of HHS
recently announced the availability of FY 2005 funds for the Older Adult
Mental Health Targeted Capacity Expansion Grant Program to help
communities provide direct services and build the necessary
infrastructure to support and meet the diverse mental health needs of
older persons. Direct services to be funded under this grant program
must be supported by a strong evidence base. It is expected that
approximately $4.4 million will be available to fund up to 11 awards to
build a solid foundation for delivering and sustaining effective mental
health outreach, treatment, and prevention services, as well as
resources to support the direct delivery of services to adults 60 years
and older. The annual award amount will be approximately $375,000 to
$400,000 per year for up to three years. The actual award amount may
vary, depending on the availability of funds. The grants will be
awarded by SAMHSA's Center for Mental Health Services. Eligible
applicants are domestic public and private nonprofit entities such as
state, local or tribal governments; public or private universities and
colleges; community- and faith-based organizations; and tribal
organizations may apply. Applicants must comply with the requirement to
address the target population of persons 60 years of age and older who
are at risk for or are experiencing mental health problems.

CVS Pharmacy Charitable Trust -- Programs Serving Children with
Disabilities
The mission of CVS/Pharmacy Charitable Trust is to positively impact
culturally diverse populations in the communities where CVS/pharmacy
stores are located. The Trust is interested in serving children with
physical disabilities through individual programs and through the public
school system.
The Trust is seeking applications from health programs serving children
with physical disabilities that address the following: awareness,
accessibility, and early interventions. The Trust is also seeking
applications from public schools (grades pre-K through 12), which are
expanding programs promoting the inclusion of children with physical
disabilities.

Christopher D. Smithers Foundation -- Funding for Alcoholism Prevention
The Christopher D. Smithers Foundation focuses its grant making
initiatives on the issues of alcoholism, including prevention,
treatment, research, public education, and creating awareness of these
problems in the work force. The Foundation's main focus is in the field
of alcoholism prevention and education.
Eligible applicants are 501 (3) (c) nonprofit organizations. While a
number of grants go to national organizations, regional and local
organizations across the country also receive funds.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- Academic Partners for
Excellence in Environmental Public Health Tracking
FYI: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced
funding for the Academic Partners for Excellence in Environmental Public
Health Tracking program. The purpose of the program is to provide
expertise and support to the National Environmental Public Health
Tracking Program in the development and utilization of the National
Environmental Public Health Tracking Network. Measurable outcomes of the
program will be to increase the understanding of the relationship
between environmental exposures and health effects
Eligible applicants are Schools of Public Health in the US, accredited
by the Council on Education of Public Health, associated with programs
in environmental epidemiology, environmental sciences, health education,
health/risk communication, clinical medicine, and medical informatics.
Approximate funding is $2,000,000 for five awards. The average award for
the first year is $400,000 for up to five years.
Deadline: May 27, 2005 (Letter of Intent); June 27, 2005 (Application
Deadline)
