Hi Everyone,

I'm going to be presenting a workshop in October on Substance Dependence
as a Public Health Issue, and I'd like to get a couple of videos for the
workshop (it'll be a 3 hour program so a variety of media will work
best).
My audience is the membership of the International Nurses Society on
Addictions - all of the professional nurses, most working in the
addictions clinical setting with a medical model where the individual is
the client (sometimes the family is conceptualized as client, but
usually not as thoroughly as I'd like to see). I'd like to get a video
that is a review of public health nursing basics; aggregate client,
primary, secondary, tertiary prevention, epidemiological triangle, etc.
The only one I have been able to find is "The Face of Public Health".
It's offered on the APHA, Nursing Section web site, and I don't know if
it covers what I want. Nevertheless, it's only 8 minutes long and if it
covers what I want, that would be great.
I doubt whether it would, given its brevity. Does anyone know of a video
(30-45 minutes) that would cover the basic concepts?

Also, I'd like to find a video (dvd) that addresses substance dependence
from a public health perspective. The only one I know if is the (old)
Mosby's "Nursing Care of Clients with Substance Abuse: Substance Abuse
in the Community". While the concepts of primary and secondary
prevention are addressed *very* briefly, most of the video is the care
of the individual in the community setting (home health nurse, clinic
nurse), etc. Does anyone know of a video (again 30-45 minutes) that
would truly address substance dependence as a public health (community
health) problem, applying all the concepts to the community's problem
with substance dependence. I have a good video that covers
methamphetamine use and production, a really obvious exemplar of a drug
(agent) impacting the host and the environment, but I wonder if there is
something more generic.

If anyone could direct me to where I might find resources such as these,
I'd be very grateful.
