AUSTRALIAN NUTRITION SCREENING INITIATIVE
The ANSI purpose is to improve the quality and lower the cost of
health care in Australia by promoting greater attention to the role
of nutrition in maintaining health. Specifically, the Initiative aims
to accelerate the rate at which nutrition screening and intervention
are routinely incorporated in Australian health and medical care. The
initial focus is on the older person because :
Older persons are the single largest demographic group at
disproportionate risk of malnutrition.
The older person tends to be in the health care system more than
other age groups.
There are many relatively clearly defined avenues to reach the
elderly with information.
The Initiative is supported by the Dietitians Association of
Australia ; The Royal Australian College of General Practioners ; The
Council on Aging and Pharmacy Self Care.
The first developed tool is a 12 item questionnaire assessing
nutritional risk.The QQ and Results from the use of this screening tool for poor nutritional
