Why are so many people taking algae based nutritional supplements ?

Why are so many people selling these algae based nutritional supplements ?

Harvard and other research centers are studying blue green algae.

Organizations such as the Center for Aerospace Information study algae.

WHY are Blue Green Algae so interesting??????

Algae are a natural food source of nutrients that the body can absorb and
use immediately. The minerals in algae are bonded, or chelated to the amino
acids making them more bioavailable and easier for the body to fully use.
Other sources of supplemental minerals and vitamins are raw chemicals or
minerals dug out of the ground. Human beings don't absorb vitamins and
minerals in that form very well, because we weren't meant to eat dirt.
Plants eat dirt, we eat plants. The vitamins, minerals and nutrients in
plants are readily absorbed by our bodies. Simple concept, far reaching
meaning. If you want to supplement your diet, supplement it with plants
rich in the things your body needs. Certain algae like Spirulina are
perfect little supplement plants.

Spirulina has a high concentration of B vitamins.

Spirulina is also a source of antioxidants; Vitamins C, B
complex, and E that counter damaging free radicals. Plus carotenoids (Vit. A)

Spirulina is a source of zinc which is important for a healthy prostate.

Spirulina has a high concentration of iron.

Spirulina is a source of hard to get micro nutrients such as manganese,
copper, and the trace element selenium.

Spirulina stores its energy directly as glycogen, the same as humans.

Spirulina unlike most plants has no cell wall, just a cell membrane, just
like human cells. So it is easy to digest, unlike cellulose in cell walls
of some plants which makes them hard to digest and some are undigestible.

Most proteins and carbohydrates are not quick energy foods because they
have to be converted to glycogen and can be difficult to digest, in fact
they take quite a bit of energy to digest.

Algae color is from healthy substances like chlorophyll (green),
phycocyanin (blue) and carotenoids (orange).

Algae contain the sulfo-glycolipids and polysaccharides, "nutriceuticals"
that are gathering increasing interest in the treatment of various
diseases, including some cancers.

Harvard and other research centers are studying algae to determine its
effect on the immune system. The immune system is composed of the thymus,
spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract, and other
components that neutralize or remove foreign substances from our systems.

Organizations such as the Center for Aerospace Information study algae for
their potential benefits as components of biological life-support systems,
they feel it may have some use in the human diet."
