On another list I subscribe to, a question was asked relating
to a prenatal woman (15 weeks gestation) who has CF and is
wanting to breastfeed her baby. She is wondering if
supplements would be needed.
>From what I have read, the majority of CF centers
recommend breastfeeding either alone or in combination with
pancreatic enzyme replacements. (Since the infant with CF
is more prone to severe respiratory infections, he needs the
additional immunological protection supplied by breastmilk.)
If supplementation is required, a hydrolyzed formula is
recommended.
Do any of you have any additional information/references
about this topic?
Any information or references about this subject would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.
