Maternal Weight Gain: A Report of an Expert Work Group (1997)

This publication is the final report of the Maternal Weight Gain Meeting held
on May 6-7, 1996. The purposes of the meeting were to (1) consider research
related to maternal weight gain that had been published since the 1990 IOM
report Nutrition During Pregnancy; (2) determine whether the results of recent
research provide a basis for changing the guidance for maternal weight gain;
(3) recommend future directions for research, training, and/or other
programmatic initiatives. The report highlights research findings presented
in panels that addressed determinants of maternal weight gain and maternal and
infant outcomes. The report also highlights research from relevant
publications, identifies areas of special concern, and summarizes the group's
recommendations for practice and research.

Single copies are available at no charge from the National Maternal and Child
Health Clearinghouse, 2070 Chain Bridge Road Suite 450, Vienna, VA
22182-2536, tel: (703) 356-1964, fax: (703) 821-2098. The publication can
also be down loaded from the National Center for Education in Maternal and
Child Health's web page: http://www.ncemch.org/pubs.
