SARAH et al: The most recent nationally representative information on
fruit & vegetable consumption from 24-hour recall data would come from
the CSFII 1994-1996 data, collected by the USDA Agricultural Research
Service with the assistance of a contractor. This data has recently
been analyzed by the USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion as
part of the development of the 1994-96 Healthy Eating Index (HEI). You
may call them at 202-418-2312 to ask for a copy of the new HEI report.
My staff will be working with a contractor to do a more in-depth
analysis of the CSFII data on school age children, including change over
time since the 1989-91 CSFII with a special focus on the contributions
of the school meals programs. This report should be published in 1999.
[We don't keep a list of advance requests, so contact me in July 1999 if
you want a copy.] You may also obtain the CSFII data CD-ROM if you want
to analyze the data yourself. Call the USDA Agricultural Research
Service Food Surveys Research Group at 301-734-8457 for information on
how to obtain the CSFII data. Hope that this helps.
