Special Supplement of Public Health Reports
highlighting Extramural Prevention Research supported by CDC
Sponsored by: CDC's Office of Prevention Research and the
Association of Schools of Public Health. Guest editors, Lynda Doll, CDC,
and Susan Scrimshaw, School of Public Health, University of Illinois at

Goal of the special supplement is to showcase new scientific
findings from extramural research supported by CDC.
Contents will consist of 12 research articles that report
scientific findings with direct applicability to public health programs and
policies. Submission of papers on a variety of research topics (e.g.,
etiologic, determinants, intervention, policy, research synthesis,
dissemination research) and from a variety of disciplines and methodologic
approaches is encouraged.
Who is eligible to submit an abstract? Scientists who have
received research funding from any source at CDC as well as CDC staff who
have collaborated in, or facilitated, extramural research.
Abstract deadline and format: Abstracts must be postmarked
by October 15, 1999 and sent to the Office of Prevention Research, CDC, 1600
Clifton Rd., Mailstop A-23, Atlanta GA 30333. Abstracts must be no more than
2 double-spaced pages using a 12-point font and include title, authors and
institutions, email address of first author, background, objectives,
methods, results, and conclusions sections.
Abstract acceptances: Authors will be notified by November
1, 1999.
Manuscript deadline and format: Manuscripts are due March
15, 2000. Manuscripts may be 20-30 double-spaced pages, including
references, tables, and graphs.
Peer review and manuscript acceptances: All manuscripts will
be peer reviewed. Final selection of manuscripts for publication will be
based on scientific quality, clarity of presentation, importance and mix of
topic areas, and mix of authors (academic and other investigators, CDC
staff).
Publication and distribution: The supplement will be
published in early 2001. Copies will be sent to domestic and international
public health departments, public health organizations, community and health
organizations, research centers, federal agencies, professional
organizations, libraries, and foundations.
