Apologies and information on viruses

Friends:
I have been out sick with the flu for over a week and have not been
reading my email. My apologies if things have gone to rack and ruin on the
list. I just wasn't up to reading my email from my bed.
I did not see who posted the original message with the virus. However, I
would ask that all of you not post any Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents
to this list. It wrecks havoc with our computers.
Having said that, all of us should have a good virus scanner on our
desktop to catch viruses. Free scanners can be had from the Web or you
can purchase low cost scanners from your favorite software vendor.
The last rule is not to open a file from someone you don't know very well
indeed, and even then look at attachments from discussion groups with some
suspicion. You will not get a virus on your computer if you don't open the
attached file. Email by itself doesn't give you a virus.
I wish I'd had a virus scanner last week before this flu hit me.
Regards,
Laura Larsson
