Dear colleagues:
There has been a lot of interest in low-carbohydrate diets and several
people have posted fact sheets on this topic on their web sites. (See
below.) In addition to these fact sheets, you might want to visit the Ask
the Nutrition Expert feature on the Cornell Cooperative Extension Food and
Nutrition web site at http://www.cce.cornell.edu/food/.
The current topic is Low-Carbohydrate Diets and our expert is Dr. David
Levitsky, Professor in the Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell
University. His research interests include the behavioral and metabolic
factors that determine energy intake and expenditure.
Dr. Levitsky has written an overview on Low-Carbohydrate Diets which has
been posted on the site. You can read his overview and/or ask him
questions. Questions and answers of general interest are also posted on the
site.

Judy, I have developed a consumer tip sheet with just that kind of
info--there are 8 reasons plus a "bottom line;" it's titled: "What's Wrong
with the NEW High-Protein Diets???"
The title sprung from the exact question posed to us by consumers and health
professionals outside of nutrition.
If you're interested, you can take a look at it on our web site (the URL is
included in my signature text); then click on "tip sheets" then the title in
orange.
Hope you find this helpful. We have used it extensively throughout the
state. If anyone has suggestions on making the list better, I'm interested
in feedback.
