Cabbage Leaves and Engorgement

Please pardon the cross-postings.  My wife just had a discussion with a
public health nurse, and one thing the nurse mentioned was that putting
raw cabbage leaves inside a nursing mother's bra can help alleviate
engorgement.  She had no idea why, but it apparently sometimes works.
Does anyone out there know any rationale for this re compounds present
in raw cabbage?
