Friends:

I will be at APHA next week and my access to email may be spotty. I'm
letting you know ahead of time so that if you run into problems with any
of the lists you will know that I might be slower than usual in fixing
them.

Here's some last minute advice:

1. Don't post Word attachments. Cut and paste content into a regular email
and send the information as text. This helps to prevent nasty viruses from
spreading and ruining your hard drive. There's no point in posting
information that most people will not open.

The Nimda virus nearly brought OHSU to its knees because it's very
invasive, so not opening any file that you are not expecting is a really
good idea. I always check first with the sender if the attachment is not
expected to make sure this is valid. Takes extra work but can save you big
time.

2. If someone gets out of line (and very few have over the years), delete
their postings unread. That's the best revenge. No one wants to be
ignored.

3. Be patient. If I don't reply it's because I'm consumed by my
responsibilities in the APHA Technology Center. I will solve any problems
with subscribing, unsubscribing or changing email addresses just as soon
as I can.

4. Use descriptive subject lines and change them when you change subjects.
This helps list members decide what to read and saves them time.

5. Use a signature file to increase your credibility when you post
messages.

6. To turn off mail from this list, send a message to:
listproc at u.washington.edu

In the body type: set phnutr-l mail postpone
Substitute your list name for phnutr-l.

Have a terrific week. If you have time, come see me in the Technology
Center. 215E GA Convention Center, and introduce yourselves (not during
scientific sessions, though, please, as I will be busy with the speakers).
I would love to put faces to names and renew friendships.
