Hi Everyone,
Some of the information I sent in my earlier e-mail included some images
from one of the respondents. I just learned not all e-mail systems are
accepting these anymore. Here's a second version with this section removed.
Here is a collation of the responses I received on Internet sources of
information about storing fruits and vegetables.
Thank you all so much!
I gave up on trying to list the number of times each site was mentioned and
just cut-and-paste from everyone's e-mails.

Hi!
I came across this site when I was looking for information regarding
carrots. It is a commercial site and not all of the information do I
agree with but it does have great pictures and information about storing
fruits and vegetables.

Dear Alice,
Go to the "Food Keeper" brochure from the Food Marketing Institute (and editted
by Bob Gravani and me) at
http://www.fmi.org/consumer/foodkeeper/brochure.cfm
This brochure gives information about how to store many kinds of foods,
including many individual fruits and vegetables, in the pantry, refrigerator or
freezer. It will be revised in a third edition in the near future, but the
present version is certainly useful now. Some of the storage times are fairly
"conservative" (meaning shorter than I have experienced at home, myself), but
they are meant to be general guidelines, not concrete rules.
People can order single or multiple copies of The FoodKeeper from the Food
Marketing Institute by contacting:
Publication Sales at FMI
Food Marketing Institute
655 15th Street, N.W.
Washington, D.C. 20005
Phone: (202) 220-0600
FAX: (202) 429-4550
Prices are: $0.75 per copy,
$30.00 per hundred or more copies, and
$300.00 per thousand or more copies.
For individual requests, FMI asks that consumers mail them $0.75 along with a
business-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope.
I hope this is helpful,
Donna Scott
