What is your definition?

Rosanne,
I agree with your definition. We put a lot of emphasis on nutrition and
physical activity but balance, self-esteem and feeling good along with
nutrition and physical activity can lead to a healthier life (even if it
means the weight is a little more than the healthy weight range of the BMI).
The vitality message of Health Canada was a good one. I think the term
"balance' will mean different things for each one of us and we need to
recognize in our counselling and health promotion. Even the term "weight
management" still puts the emphasis on weight instead of "Lifestyle
management" which helps the individual feel healthier and lead a enjoyable
and fulfilling life.

Hi Monika
Weight Management:
I would define this as an ongoing process where the goal is balance, health
and peace with with your weight. The process is fluid and responds to many
different factors(stress, life events). To keep the balance( or weight)
where we need it, we learn to respond to factors in a way that gets us to
that balance. I see Weight management requiring discipline in the same
manner that managing a household requires or managing to balance a check
book.
