Interdisciplinary Leadership Training in
Obesity Prevention and Intervention\
Among Children with Special Health Care Needs
WHAT
Obesity has emerged as one of the nation's most pressing health =
problems for children and adolescents. Obesity places all children at =
increased risk for adult morbidities, yet for children with special =
health care needs (CSHCN), obesity presents them with additional =
physical and emotional stresses which can significantly impact their =
day-to-day lives. The overall goal of this program is to provide =
interdisciplinary leadership training to health professionals and =
related care providers involved in obesity prevention and intervention =
among CSHCN. Trainees will: (1) increase their capabilities in =
screening, assessment, intervention, follow-up, and prevention of =
obesity among CSHCN; (2) increase their leadership skills in obesity =
prevention and intervention among CSHCN; (3) be able to identify and =
use community resources to develop a system of networking for obesity =
prevention and intervention among CSHCN; and (4) strengthen their =
understanding of the roles of all members of the interdisciplinary team =
involved in obesity prevention and intervention among CSHCN.
