The Institute of Medicine released a study which was focused on
assessing the past and current state of education and training for
public health professionals, identifying future practice needs, and
developing a framework for future public health professional education.
New areas of study are recommended. These are: informatics, genomics,
communication, cultural competence, competency-based participatory
research, global health, policy and law, and ethics.
