*** The Center for Public Health Nutrition at the University of Washington
in Seattle is requesting applications for the position of Research
Scientist/DOH. The position is located in Olympia, Washington, but may
require travel to the University of Washington for meetings, trainings, or
conferences. ***

Although this is not a nutrition position, per se, it is involved in the
effort to promote healthy eating and physical activity at the state level.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Research Scientist will develop evaluation
indicators and measurement tools for project activities undertaken by the
Nutrition and Physical Activity Program, Diabetes Prevention and Control
Program, Basic Food Nutrition Education Program, and the Heart Disease and
Stroke Prevention Programs in Washington State. Additionally, the person in
this role will use evaluation indicators and measurement tools, collect
data, and conduct qualitative analysis to evaluate various program
activities. Program activities include media campaigns, community capacity
building trainings, and quality improvement projects for the delivery of
prevention-based care for people with Chronic Diseases.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree or higher in Public Health with
emphasis in Epidemiology AND two or more years of experience working in a
public health setting, developing and managing data collection systems,
writing and validating survey tools, and program evaluation.

Demonstrated knowledge and use of the fundamental concepts, practices and
procedures of data analysis and qualitative and quantitative evaluation
methods. Knowledge of current public health trends and initiatives across
the country and worldwide. Experience and competence communicating and
working with health professionals, faculty members and researchers, and
diverse groups within the general public. Proficient in using MS Word, MS
Excel, MS PowerPoint, and statistical software (STATA, SAS or SPSS).
Ability to work independently, set priorities, organize multiple, complex
tasks simultaneously, with demonstrated attention to detail.
