Research Scientist 3 (50% position)

ADAI has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist on
a funded project involving collaborative, culturally competent methods
to develop a user-friendly manual, or "field guide" on the use of
community-based participatory research (CBPR) and Tribal participatory
research (TPR) methods for academic researchers and Tribal communities.
The purpose of the manual will be to develop and implement culturally
relevant, truly collaborative research in the areas of substance abuse,
HIV/AIDS, mental health, and other areas of health disparities in
American Indian/Alaska Native populations. Thus, the position will also
involve working with researchers and Tribal communities to collect and
incorporate information from a number of relevant and critical sources.

This position is included as key personnel on a funded grant
application that will involve assisting in the development,
coordination, implementation, assessment, and refinement of all
necessary data and information that results in the proposed CBPR manual
for Tribal communities and academic researchers.

Requirements: Masters Degree in psychology, educational
psychology, social work, or related behavioral sciences AND three years
of prior experience working with alcohol, drug use, and risk behaviors.

Additional Requirements:
* Grant proposal development and writing
* Experience writing scholarly papers as demonstrated by
published articles in peer-reviewed professional journals and/or book
chapters.
* Familiarity with culturally relevant research methods and
familiarity with community-based participatory research methods.
* Demonstrated skill in collaborative team work; excellent
interpersonal and communication skills and attention to detail.

Desired: * Doctorate in psychology, educational psychology,
social work, or related behavioral sciences.
* Experience working with Native American/Alaska Native
populations in research capacity

Research Scientist 3 (50% position)

ADAI has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Scientist on
a funded project with the overall goal of working in partnership with
Pacific Northwest Tribes, the Southeast Alaska Regional Health
Consortium (SEARHC), and the Washington State Division of Alcohol and
Substance Abuse (DASA) to plan, develop, and implement a study of health
disparity issues, specifically related to substance use and abuse,
including but not limited to methamphetamine (meth). This study seeks to
better understand the impact on individuals and communities of meth and
other substances and the relative frequency of meth and other substances
as the primary drug(s) of abuse among these American Indian/Alaska
Natives (AIAN) seeking treatment. This position is included as key
personnel on a funded grant application that will involve assisting in
the development, implementation, conduct, management, and data analysis
for a project that involves community-specific assessments through focus
groups with key stakeholders in 3-5 Tribal communities; through
structured interviews with AIAN's seeking treatment for methamphetamine
and other substance abuse issues; and through record review and data
extraction from the WA State's DASA Treatment and Report Generation Tool
(TARGET) and SEARHC databases.

Requirements: Masters Degree in psychology, educational
psychology, social work, or related behavioral sciences AND Three years
of prior experience working with alcohol, drug use, and risk behaviors.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum
qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a
license/certification/registration.
