[Pine-info] Pcpine has trouble dealing with .doc files

I am using PC-pine, vrs. 4.64, and have the following problem:

Although my system is Windows XP, I don't use MSWORD, but rather
StarOffice (which is supposed to be fully compatible with
MSWORD, and usually is, indeed). No MSWORD or any other word
processor is installed.

Consequently, when I receive mail with a .doc attachment and try
to open that, pcpine complains

"Attachment MSWORD unrecognized. Try open by file extension (.doc)"

I choose "yes", OKing the `choosing from a list'; at this pcpine
immediately offers me the STarOffice writer. So far so good;

[ side question: Since pcpine is smart enough to know that
StarOffice is what I need (and want), why doesn't it choose
that automatically in the first place? In other words: How can
I teach pcpine to recognize an MSWORD attachment?? ]

BUT: when I click the thus offered STarOffice writer, either
that (or pcpine) complains that it can't find the
corresponding temporary .doc file:

"...\temp\im132802.d0c does not exist"

Then, when I go through the whole process again in the
same pcpine session (i.e. trying to open the attachment
file), the second time around all works smoothly.

What's going on?
