[Pine-info] news is new when unread

well, news is no longer any news when read, however Alpine currently 
forgets the "read" status as soon as the news folder is closed. The same 
behaviour makes it a bit difficult to work with POP3 folders as well, but 
can be worked around by using a maildrop. But for news reading this is 
really not a very useful behaviour.

Deleting each read message is in my eyes not a good solution either, 
because I don't want older messages to disappear - it is often useful to 
go back and read something again. Is there a workaround?
