The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) is pleased to
invite participation in a new advanced training course designed
specifically for information specialists who provide support to users of
NCBI's molecular biology services. This announcement is being sent to
library directors so that you can identify appropriate candidates from
your staffs.
This is a five-day course and is scheduled for August 5-9, 2002, at the
National Library of Medicine. An application for C.E. credit by MLA is
currently in process.
It is restricted to those who have knowledge of molecular biology or
genetics and basic experience with NCBI resources such as Entrez,
LocusLink, BLAST, Cn3D, and Map Viewer.
A revised and expanded version of the introductory course, "Molecular
Biology Information Resources," will also be offered later in the year,
for those who do not have the prerequisites noted above. We will notify
you of the course dates once the introductory course is scheduled.
General information about the advanced course is available at:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Class/NAWBIS/
A course application form is also accessible from that page.
Applications are due by June 30, 2002.
Space is limited to 8 people, and we will inform you about acceptance into
the course by July 5, 2002.
This course was developed as a collaborative project with colleagues who
are already actively involved in supporting molecular biology resources
for users in their libraries. The course will be taught by as many of the
collaborators as possible. Members of the course development team are
listed at
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Class/NAWBIS/credits.html.
