DOCLINE libraries, please note: If you have "Refer On After NLM" checked
in your routing profile, please make sure that you also indicate a maximum
cost. For an example of why you should do this, see the email below from
CISTI.

Thanks!

>All,
>Every once in a while CISTI receives a request on DOCLINE from an American
>library through the "Refer on after NLM" function where there is no max cost
>indicated. CISTI fills the request and the library then refuses to pay the
>amount billed. CISTI charges copyright for all document delivery requests
>from American clients. This means that the amount CISTI will invoice is
>often quite a bit higher than what most resource libraries will charge.
>And since CISTI is the only non-American library in the DOCLINE "Refer on"
>category, our situation is unique.
>
>CISTI received more than 2100 "referred on" requests between May 2001 and
>June 2002, so we want to continue to be included as a "Refer on" library.
>But in training sessions for DOCLINE, you may find an opportunity to remind
>libraries to use the max cost field, even if their routing tables are
>carefully arranged not to exceed a certain cost limit.

>Thanks,
